In the Delroba Carpet, the principal motif is formed through the flowing movement of arabesque branches and symmetrical blossoms. The red areas on either side of the central axis resemble the open wings of a butterfly, and this configuration is one of the distinctive features of this reinterpretation of the Safavid school. The delicate vegetal lines within the motif are adorned with small flowers, while the dark navy ground further heightens the brilliance of the red forms.
A floral border, dominated by red, encloses the field of the carpet and creates a fitting continuity between the ground colours and the principal motif.
This design has also been woven in five other versions: one woollen Delroba with a blue ground, and four silk Delestan carpets, including two green versions, one navy version and one red version. In the choice of these two kindred names, the differing allure of wool and silk has been significant; each, in its own way, draws the eye and captures the viewer’s heart.

In Persian, Delroba means captivating, enchanting or heart-stealing; the name was chosen in reference to the butterfly-like form of the design and the compelling harmony of its colours and motifs, which draw in the eye and win the viewer’s heart. The Delroba Carpet takes shape through a reinterpretation of motifs from carpets of the Safavid school. Symmetrical branches upon a dark ground create a butterfly-like form with open red wings. The presence of this motif, together with the floral border, lends the carpet a lively and animated character.

[467

post-6371","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-carpet","first","instock","shipping-taxable","product-type-simple
["GET
