The Delsetan Carpet was designed with inspiration from motifs of the Safavid school. In this work, scrolling branches and dark arabesques unfold symmetrically across an olive-green ground, together forming the image of a butterfly with open wings. Red and blue blossoms are scattered among the intertwining branches, while the natural sheen of silk lends the carpet’s colours a changing appearance as they catch the light.

Three other silk Delsetan carpets have been woven in green, navy and red, alongside two woollen Delroba carpets in blue and red. The choice of the two names, Delsetan and Delroba, reflects the way silk, with its lustre, and wool, with its softer appearance, each captivate the viewer in a different manner. This carpet originates from Heriz and measures 156 × 117 cm.

In Persian, Delsetan means captivating, enchanting or heart-stealing; the name was inspired by the allure of the butterfly motif and the natural sheen of silk, whose changing reflections of light captivate the eye in a different way from the softer appearance of the woollen Delroba carpets. In the Delsetan Carpet, dark arabesque branches extend across an olive-green ground, forming a symmetrical composition that evokes a butterfly with open wings. Delicate blossoms, the warm tones of the ground and the lustre of silk lend refinement to this reinterpretation of Safavid motifs.

[467

post-6389","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-carpet","first","outofstock","shipping-taxable","product-type-simple
["GET
