This exquisite Persian carpet, handwoven by Bordbar, reflects the unique eye color of Nadine Olivier, the Swiss Ambassador to Iran, who personally visited Iran’s weaving regions to witness the craftsmanship

Nadine’s Carpet” is not merely a work of art—it is the embodiment of a true story of cultural connection between the Bordbar Collection and the Swiss Embassy in Iran. This journey began when Ms. Nadine, the new Swiss ambassador, sought to explore the rich world of Persian rugs and preserve a part of it as a timeless memory of her years in Iran.
Through a series of profound meetings and artistic discussions with the Bordbar team, an inspiring idea was born: the creation of a unique Persian carpet, woven in her name and memory. Coinciding with her 50th birthday and the Persian New Year, this carpet was designed to be more than a keepsake—it would be a visual narrative of her life, values, and heartfelt connection to Iran.
A trip was arranged to the culturally rich Moghan region, where Ms. Nadine was introduced to the complete process of traditional rug weaving: from wool spinning and natural dyeing, to tribal weaving techniques, design sketching, and the final finishing—all deeply rooted in Iranian heritage. The colors were hand-dyed in her presence, using natural methods and inspired by her eyes and personal preferences.
The design, based on the timeless style of Heris rugs, includes symbolic motifs such as dragons, lions, and cypress trees—each holding personal significance for her. Set against a minimal green background, the rug becomes a canvas that reflects her life and emotions through the delicate language of Persian artistry.
Ms. Nadine later delivered a keynote speech on National Carpet Day at the National Carpet Museum of Iran, where the documentary "The Carpet of Nadine” was also premiered. The event was attended by numerous ambassadors, leading scholars, and carpet experts. In recognition of her unique contribution, she was awarded an honorary certificate by both the National Carpet Center and the Carpet Museum of Iran.
This project includes:
Two documentary films (one presented at the National Carpet Museum, the other chronicling her journey to Moghan)
A full video recording of her official speech at National Carpet Day
Nadine’s Carpet is more than a woven masterpiece—it is a living testimony to cultural dialogue, beauty, and the enduring spirit of Persian handmade art.
