In addition to this cream-coloured version, three other weavings of the design also exist: the Derakhshandeh Polonaise and the brown-ground Derakhshandeh Carpet, both in silk, and the copper-ground Derakhshan Carpet, which, like the present version, is woven in wool. The name Derakhshan was chosen for the woollen versions in view of the softer quality of light reflected from wool in comparison with silk.

In the Derakhshan Carpet, vegetal and arabesque motifs have been redesigned with inspiration from Safavid-period patterns. The cream ground is adorned with brown branches and blossoms in shades of blue and turquoise, and the symmetrical movement of the motifs gives the design a clear sense of order despite its abundance of detail. The dark brown border, with its continuous lighter motifs, further emphasises the radiance of the field and the harmony of this carpet’s colours.
