pedar carpet

In Persian, Pedar means father; the name, together with the mihrab design of this carpet, was chosen as a mark of reverence and respect for the father. The red ground, scrolling branches and symmetrical blossoms, together with the richly patterned navy and cream border, give this silk-woven carpet a dignified presence.

درباره‌ی pedar carpet

In the Pedar Carpet, both the choice of name and the mihrab design were made as a sign of reverence and respect for the father. The mihrab takes shape against a red ground, while scrolling branches and blossoms, both small and large, fill its interior space. The arch of the mihrab is defined in the upper section by a darker tone, and vegetal motifs extend symmetrically on either side.

The wide border of the carpet is composed of blossoms and repeated ornaments in shades of navy, cream and red. The darkness of the border, set beside the red of the field, allows the mihrab form and the central motifs to stand out clearly.

Alongside this work, another version has also been woven under the name Polonaise Pedar, which, with its ivory ground, gentle colours and the same mihrab theme, presents a different appearance. This silk carpet, originating from Heriz, was woven in the dimensions of 180 × 137 cm.
