Sarvestan Carpet

In Persian, Sarvestan means a land of cypresses or a cypress grove; the name reflects the numerous cypress trees in the design, symbolising eternity, communal life and the bonds between generations. With its red ground and abundant cypresses, the Sarvestan Carpet evokes the ideas of eternity and the continuity of life. The regular repetition of the trees and the harmony of its rich, mature colours lend this weaving a dignified and enduring presence. This carpet is one of the two large Sarvestan versions in the three-piece Sarvestan and Soroud collection.

درباره‌ی Sarvestan Carpet

In this version of the Sarvestan Carpet, cypress motifs are repeated in an orderly arrangement throughout the field. Tall, slender cypresses in shades of cream and blue stand against a red ground, while delicate branches and vegetal motifs fill the spaces between them. The abundance of cypresses and the richness of the colour palette lend the design a sense of strength and depth.
In the concept behind this collection, the cypress symbolises eternity, while the gathering of cypresses represents people living alongside one another; a life whose enduring significance lies in the bonds between generations.
This carpet forms a pair with another large Sarvestan Carpet measuring 240 × 205 cm. The smaller member of this family is named Soroud, whose smaller cypresses symbolise a child carrying forward the family’s melody of eternity. The present carpet is woven from wool and cotton, originates from Heriz, and measures 235 × 198 cm.
