Molouk Carpet

Molouk is the name of the weaver after whom this carpet design is named, preserving the artist’s identity and craftsmanship alongside the work. In the Molouk Carpet, the warm brown ground is interwoven with angular khata’i blossoms and delicate branches. The navy-blue border, adorned with red and light-coloured flowers, creates a carefully balanced contrast with the field, lending this design, inspired by the Sultanabad and Heriz schools, a dignified character.

درباره‌ی Molouk Carpet

In this version, the Molouk Carpet is woven with a brown ground and warm colours. Large khata’i blossoms and angular branches are arranged symmetrically throughout the field, their flowing forms lending the design a free and natural character. The navy-blue border, adorned with red, cream and blue flowers, provides a fitting frame for the carpet’s warm ground. Its design is influenced by the characteristic motifs of Sultanabad and Heriz carpets.
The design takes its name from Molouk, its weaver, and five other versions are held within the Bordbar Collection: three carpets with lacquer-red and blue grounds, and one woven using naturally coloured sheep’s wool; a predominantly blue Morvaridbaf version; and the Raha Carpet with a green ground.
This piece originates from Heriz, is woven from wool and cotton, and measures 310 × 223 cm.
